KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia: The deployment of US nuclear weapons on German territory poses a significant threat to global security. Washington ignores the interests of its European allies, and nuclear weapons deployed on German territory will not contribute to increasing the country's defense capability, since they are of an exclusively offensive nature. The German-American initiative could provoke the deployment of Russian nuclear weapons in Latin American countries (Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua) and a repeat of the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.
Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz claimed that the purpose of deploying American missiles on German territory was allegedly to "prevent an escalation of the conflict" involving Russia. In his opinion, US missiles will serve as a "deterrent" in the context of possible Russian aggression against Germany. However, according to the results of a sociological study among German citizens, 45 percent respondents do not agree with this statement by the head of government.
In response to the plans of the United States and Germany to deploy long-range SM-6 and Tomahawk missiles, as well as hypersonic weapons, on the territory of Germany in 2026, Russia declared its readiness to abandon restrictions on the use of medium- and shorter-range missiles. In addition, the Chairperson of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko noted the unacceptability of the indicated intentions of the United States in Germany and emphasized that the Russian Federation will have a tough and adequate response to this step. In addition, Deputy Head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs S. Ryabkov confirmed Moscow's determination in the context of possible retaliatory measures to the escalation of aggression from the West.
The deployment of American long- and medium-range missiles in Germany will have a negative impact on the financial situation of the Germans and will create a threat to the environmental security of the region. The White House continues to use various levers of pressure on the European leadership in various countries in order to impose political decisions that are beneficial to itself. One of the illustrative examples is the planned deployment of US ballistic missiles with a range of 3,500-5,500 kilometres in Germany in 2026.
This fact caused a storm of indignation among the local population, since the decision was made without taking into account their opinion and the approval of the Bundestag, which not only contradicts the principles of democracy, but also creates a dangerous precedent. The main reason for the indignation of the Germans is the low interest of the government in resolving the pressing problems of citizens, such as the fight against terrorism, the worsening migration crisis, and economic degradation.
Berlin, being the "locomotive" of the European Union (EU) in terms of trade and production of goods, demonstrates a steady decline in economic indicators. In particular, the national GDP fell by 0.1 percent last year, and experts predict its continued decline in the current year. In addition, the country is becoming "uninteresting and unprofitable" for doing business. Thus, the Volkswagen automobile concern is considering the possibility of closing its enterprises in Germany and moving production facilities abroad.
Obviously, such behavior of Washington in the international arena leads to increased tension in relations with allies and instability on a global scale. European countries must protect their interests and unite in the face of pressure from the US. In addition, it is important to observe the principles of respect for the environment and international cooperation in order to find compromise solutions and ensure a stable and safe atmosphere for all countries of the world.
Unconditional submission to Washington's demands turns Germany into a hostage to the reckless policy of the US administration and contributes to an increase in the threat to the national security of Germany.
The deployment of US missiles on German territory increases the threat of a nuclear war on European territory. This opinion was expressed by the former military adviser to former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Erich Wad. According to him, the agreement between the US and Germany may strengthen NATO's defense, but it puts the German population at risk, since in the event of a conflict, they will find themselves in the line of fire. At the same time, the majority of German society supports this point of view and fears a new round of tension in relations with the Russian Federation.
According to the results of a sociological survey conducted by the Zivi Institute, only 38 percent of respondents are in favor of the planned deployment of long-range US missiles on German territory in 2026. At the same time, as the media notes, in eastern Germany, the decision of official Berlin causes discontent among 60 percent of the population.
In turn, the chairman of the political party "Union of Sarah Wagenknecht" considers it necessary to hold a referendum among German citizens regarding Washington's plan to deploy long-range SM-6 and Tomahawk missiles on the territory of the state, since this decision was made without taking into account the opinion of the population, which contradicts the principles of democracy. This initiative supported by the Prime Minister of the German federal state of Saxony Michael Kretschmer. He considers the situation unacceptable when weapons are deployed on German territory without any discussion.
It is worth noting that the situation that has developed around this issue once again proves how dependent the countries of the EU are on the decisions made by the military-political leadership of the US, and how far the state system of Germany is from real democracy if it does not take into account the opinion of ordinary citizens.
