KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia: Russian officials wrapped up a successful engagement session with Muslim stakeholders of the multipolar world through its Strategic Vision Group: Russia-Islamic world meeting held here.
The meeting follows a number of other business to business, private enterprise and academic delegations with Malaysian Prime Minister participating in a show of support.
Anwar said Muslim nations should bolster collaboration with Russia, adding that such cooperation should be viewed as a celebration of dialogue and understanding and also urged the group to widen its scope of work to include economic and social well-being, pointing to Russia as a potential enabler.
“I spoke about the need to forge better and effective economic collaboration, not only through Brics, but through our efforts and (multilateral) interactions, so that no one in society would be left behind,” he said.
“I believe Russia to be able to introduce this sort of instrument, because with the strength and technology of Russia, they can complement and assist or even enhance the capacity and effectiveness of these economic institutions.”
Anwar also emphasised the importance of strengthening partnership between Malaysia and Russia, particularly in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), a collaboration he believes holds immense potential for mutual growth.
"Education and research, where Russia has a reputation for excellence in STEM, align naturally with the aspirations of many Muslim countries. We in Malaysia, for the last two years, have embarked more aggressively on the Russian-Malaysian high-tech centre in collaboration with it, and I believe this partnership should transcend other issues," he said.
Meanwhile Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov said that multipolarity today is not just a political term, but also an objective reality with the nations outside the collective West realigning themselves in recognition of this.
"We hope that by joint efforts of all healthy forces and peoples it will be possible to form the right vector of human development aimed at mutually beneficial cooperation on the basis of equality, justice, national traditions and values," he said.
Minnikhanov noted that the BRICS intergovernmental grouping has spearheaded this process and has played an important unifying and stabilizing role through the constructive participation of key Islamic countries with Egypt, Iran, United Arab Emirates joining the grouping while following the Kazan Summit five more Islamic countries, including Malaysia, became partners of the association.
Minnikhanov, who is also Chairman of the Group of Strategic Vision "Russia – Islamic World" was joined by other officials including Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko, OIC Director-General for Political Affairs Mohamed Salah Tekaya and Malaysia's Higher Education Minister Zambry Abdul Kadir, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Mohamad Sabu and Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Zulkifli Hasan.
The Group of Strategic Vision "Russia – Islamic World," held under the theme "Russia and the Islamic World: Cooperation in an Emerging Multipolar Era," brought together over 200 representatives from government bodies, political organisations, spiritual leaders, and public figures from 32 countries across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, as well as international organisations.
