KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia--The Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (ABIM) refers to the waving of the white flag that comes from the initiative of Malaysians to alleviate the misery of life at this time. ABIM stressed, this #BenderaPutih is a manifestation of the voice of the people beyond the political interests of the party.

Instead, it made the country's leaders aware that the current situation of the people was critical. This can be seen through several sad incidents including the increasing number of suicides. Based on statistics released by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) dated 1 July 2021, the overall suicide statistics in Malaysia has reached one thousand from 2019 to May 2021 and saw an average of 2 suicides a day.

Besides, based on a report from the Secretariat of the Economic Action Council (EAC), more than 600,000 households from the middle-income group (M40) have slipped into the B40 low-income group.

Thus, ABIM emphasized that through several good initiatives that came from the people, including the waving of the white flag, it was a translation of the new phenomenon of #rakyatjagarakyat, namely the people together helping each other without having to wait for initiatives from the government.

ABIM would also like to take this opportunity to call on all the people in the spirit of #BangsaMalaysia to work together to help each other as a common mechanism to empower the people for the long term.

It should be clarified that the problematic situation that is happening today befalls all parties regardless of race and religion who must be helped and empowered together.
