KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia: Past successes alone will not guarantee the future of Malaysia’s rubber glove industry in an increasingly competitive and tightly regulated international market. This was the core message delivered by Malaysian Rubber Glove Manufacturers Association (MARGMA) President, Oon Kim Hung, during the official soft launch of the 12th International Rubber Glove Conference and Exhibition (12th IRGCE 2026).

Speaking to industry leaders, government representatives, and global stakeholders, Oon highlighted that the global operating environment has undergone a fundamental transformation. Manufacturers now face heightened international scrutiny regarding quality, supply chain traceability, strict labor governance, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards alongside persistent raw material and cost pressures.

“The rubber glove industry operates in a very different environment today. Past success alone is not enough. Malaysia must continue to differentiate itself through quality, reliability, compliance, and credibility, rather than on price alone,” Oon stated, emphasizing that the future of the nation's multi-billion ringgit sector must be actively earned through continuous improvement and technical superiority.

The soft launch also served as the formal platform for a milestone Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between MARGMA and the Malaysian Rubber Council (MRC), alongside a high-profile sponsor signing ceremony. Organised by MARGMA and co-hosted by the MRC, the main IRGCE 2026 event will take place from 8 to 10 September 2026 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).

Record-Breaking Exhibition Footprint

Ahead of its September opening, the upcoming exhibition has already achieved a major historic milestone. Demand from the global supply chain has completely filled the exhibition floor, with a record-breaking 600 booths fully taken up by exhibitors spanning 15 countries. This makes the 12th edition the largest IRGCE organized since the flagship event’s inception in 2002, comfortably surpassing the previous record of 553 booths. The grand showcase is projected to draw over 1,000 international conference delegates and more than 10,000 trade visitors originating from over 70 countries.

The soft launch proceedings were officially inaugurated by Dato Zairossani Mohd Nor, Director General of the Malaysian Rubber Board (MRB), who attended on behalf of Datuk Seri Dr. Noraini Ahmad, the Minister of Plantation and Commodities. The Ministry’s institutional backing reinforces the government's long-term commitment to future-proofing Malaysia's position as a premium global market leader within the downstream rubber products sector.

Four Strategic Pillars for Global Leadership

To safeguard the industry's resilience and long-term viability, MARGMA has outlined four foundational strategic pillars:

* Global Differentiation: Securing Malaysia’s international reputation as a premium, highly trusted source of protective equipment by prioritizing uncompromised quality, regulatory compliance, and market credibility over low-cost market alternatives.

* Technical Advancement: Sharpening the nation's manufacturing edge via capital investments in automated processing, specialized product development, material science, and carbon-efficient production tech.

* Talent Pipeline & Knowledge Ecosystem: Cultivating specialized human capital by directly linking industrial players with academic institutions to expand research and development capabilities.

* ESG & Sustainable Practices: Constructively and proactively elevating workplace standards, responsible sourcing, and total supply chain transparency to satisfy evolving global buyer mandates.

In line with building the industry's talent pipeline, MARGMA highlighted its recent collaboration with Monash University Malaysia to launch a specialized Master’s program in Colloids and Latex Technology, designed to inject advanced scientific capabilities into process optimization and material design.

Expanding the Knowledge Frontier

The 12th IRGCE 2026 conference will feature a robust academic and commercial program, bringing together 6 prominent local and international plenary speakers alongside 36 global experts. Notable speakers include Robert G. Hamilton, Professor of Medicine and Pathology at Johns Hopkins University, USA, who will address critical advancements within the glove ecosystem.

A premier addition to this year’s convention layout is INNOVATE@IRGCETalk, a specialized, dedicated knowledge stage positioned right on the exhibition floor. This targeted space will directly spotlight technological breakthroughs in next-generation materials, smart manufacturing systems, and sustainable production processes.

Strong Institutional and Corporate Backing

The event highlighted active collaborative efforts between MARGMA, the MRC, and the MRB to advance forward-looking credibility campaigns, such as the *Malaysia Made Glove* initiative. Officials reiterated that licensing and oversight by the Malaysian Rubber Board remain pivotal in safeguarding the integrity of local exports amid rising global trade complexities.

The soft launch concluded with a formal signing ceremony honoring the major corporate entities anchoring the event. The designated **Gold Sponsors** include Hartalega NGC Sdn Bhd, Kossan Latex Industries Sdn Bhd, Reebow Intelligent Equipment (M) Sdn Bhd, Supermax Glove Manufacturing Sdn Bhd, Tiong Tat Printing Industries Sdn Bhd, and Top Glove Sdn Bhd.
