Islamic Reformation Wave That Took Malaysia Off Track

When Politicians Want To Go To Heaven

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia: It was reported that UMNO’s sole assemblyman in Kelantan, Mohd Syahbuddin Hashim, voted along with the rest of the state legislature to support a motion to re-enact provisions of the Shariah criminal code that the Federal Court recently declared unconstitutional. In explaining the assembly’s puerile act of defiance of the highest court in the land, Syahbuddin said, “We want to go to heaven”.

Hoping PAS Will Moderate Its Behaviour Is Just Wishful Thinking

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia: In a recent interview, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said he would not reject the possibility of PAS joining the unity government subject to PAS accepting several core policies and respecting that Malaysia is a multiracial and multireligious nation. This comes after he had spoken earlier about his hopes for “rekindling” a relationship with PAS president Hadi Awang.

Would Pakatan Harapan Win GE15?

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia--As the tempo for a Pakatan Harapan (PH) win rises, we have the associated intellectuals pleading with voters to exercise their democratic vote to seal the deal for the coalition. We even had one top legal mind articulating that constitutionally the party with the most MPs should be called to form the government the very next day.

PAS Parti Loklaq, Cepat Koyak Bila Tak Dapat Habuan

Malaysia’s Political Clown Show

SACRAMENTO, U.S.--Arguably the only useful outcome of the 22-month Pakatan Harapan coalition that ruled Malaysia until February 2020, was court proceedings instituted against former Prime Minister Najib Razak and Zahid Hamidi, United Malays National Organization party president.

Bon Odori Debate Is A Larger Issue Of The Nexus Between State, Religion And Politics

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia--The recent remarks by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Idris Ahmad calling on Muslims in the country not to attend the Bon Odori festival gives us Malaysians an opportunity to reflect on the principle of the separation of religion from the state and politics.

No, We Mustn’t Allow It! ― Lee Yew Meng

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia--As I watched the conferment of Tan Sri-ships on Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai (immediate past president of MCA) and Datuk Seri Hadi Awang (president of PAS) by our King very recently, I am reminded of the earlier RUU 355 (PAS Private Member’s Bill) episode some five years ago.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘀

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia--It would be ideal if Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin decided to resign honorably. Or at the very least take a less confrontational approach towards the palace by apologising and offering the heads of the Law Minister and the Attorney-General. Then, Malaysia could have avoided a constitutional crisis.
